ORANGE PARK, FL - On December 1, 2009 Rotary International granted the Rotary Club of Orange Park Sunset its official Charter. “Our club members have been working diligently over the past five months to get this club chartered before the end of 2009, and I feel very fortunate and grateful for the 30 individual members that stepped-up and took up the challenge to make it happen exactly as planned” said club President Joe Anzalone.

The ROTARY CLUB OF ORANGE PARK SUNSET is the sixty-third club added to District 6970. The club will celebrate officially on January 23, 2010 at its charter banquet, at which time District Governor Dave Faraldo will present the club with its charter certificate.

“There is a lot of hard work that goes into the process of building a good club, and there are many individuals to thank” as Anzalone refers to the club that helped to sponsor the Sunset Club. The Rotary Club of Fleming Island (sponsor club) is one of those candidates. District Governor’s Special Representative Patrick Arnwine and Club Extension Chairman Larry Johnson, both from the Fleming Island Rotary Club, were instrumental in helping the new club move the internal process of applications in a positive direction quickly. Anzalone also said “the District is filled with great leadership, past and present, and I feel that many of those that are new to this club (first time Rotarians) will at one point be adding themselves to that District leadership team in the very near future”.

Since receiving the clubs provisional status late in September, the club has been and is currently participating in several community projects. Club members could be seen ringing the Salvation Army Red Kettle bell at the local Walmart, and have had an on-going clothing and food drive to help the many area families in need this time of the year. Just before Christmas they will be delivering clothing to the local Clothes Closet and food to the Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs. Plans are in the works for a major fundraiser early in 2010 to help support other local charities, and an International project they hope to sink their teeth into by March or April.
